Privacy Policy
Effective October 2026. This explains what Northwoods Investment LLC ("we") collects when you use the Trout Hold Finder web app (the "App").
The short version. Your GPS location stays on your phone. If you make an account, we keep your email, name and password (scrambled), and your private catch log is backed up to it. We never show anyone else your catch log or your spots; there are no social features and nothing is shared. We use the log, without locations, to check whether the flags are right. We don't sell your data, and the App has no advertising trackers.
What stays on your phone
- Your GPS location. Used on your phone to show where you are, run Guide me in, and place catch-log entries. It is not sent to us, except as part of a catch-log entry you choose to save.
- Your last search, today's conditions for areas you opened, and the map tiles and spot files you've viewed (for offline use). These are stored in your phone's browser and are deleted if you clear the site's data. A copy of your catch log is kept here too, so it works with no signal.
What we receive
- Your account: your email address, the name you give, and your password, which we store only in scrambled (hashed) form that can't be turned back into the password. We also record when you joined, when you last signed in, which invite code you used, and which of our links brought you (for example a fly shop's card).
- Your catch log: entries you save (where, how it went, species, length, your note and when) are backed up to your account when you have signal. Your catch log is private. Other users can never see it, and there is no sharing. Our admin page and the spreadsheet we use to judge the beta show only whether each entry was at a flagged stretch, what was caught and when, never the location. The exact locations are stored only so your log can be restored on a new phone; we won't publish them, sell them or tell anyone where you fish.
- Searches you type (an address, town, river or coordinates) are passed through our server to the U.S. Census Bureau geocoder and to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to find the place. We don't keep a log of searches tied to you.
- Conditions requests: to give today's call, your phone sends the area's rough location (to about a kilometer) and nearby stream gauge numbers to our server, which asks USGS, the National Weather Service, the Census geocoder and the U.S. Drought Monitor. We don't store these requests with your identity.
- Map and spot requests. Like any website, our host (Cloudflare) processes your IP address and the files your phone requests in order to deliver them, and may keep short-lived technical logs.
- If you subscribe: your email and payment details go to Stripe, which processes the payment. We receive your email, your Stripe customer ID and your subscription status, not your full card number. Stripe's privacy policy covers what Stripe does with your data.
- If you reset your password (or sign in by email), we send the link through our email provider.
Cookies
The App sets a cookie that keeps you signed in, one that remembers whether your subscription is active, and, if you arrived through one of our links, one that remembers which link (for 30 days). There are no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
How we use it
To run the App, check and improve the flags using catch logs (without locations), process payments and refunds, sign you in, answer support requests, and send notices about your subscription (such as a price change). We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't share it except with the service providers named above, or when the law requires it.
Keeping and deleting it
Stripe keeps payment records as financial law requires. You can delete any catch-log entry in the App at any time. To have your whole account and catch log deleted, contact us from your account's email address; we'll delete them unless we're required to keep a record. Your account and catch log are stored with our host, Cloudflare.
Children
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll note it in the App. Questions: support@troutholdfinder.com, Northwoods Investment LLC, New Hampshire.
